There was some riding to be a little while ago. For the most part, with the weird weather patterns we’re having right now, there is still riding to be had daily. Alas, I had ridden the Vespa up to Santa Rosa where my buddy lives. We took off on a little spin around town when he started having trouble. A roadside repair was in order.
As it turns out, the top of the carburetor came off. All the screws had backed out and the spring and slide were loose. It makes for some exciting downhills when the carb doesn’t close.
After some time tinkering with it, and some fun with the stock, original tool kit from my scooter, we got back on the road again only to have another failure later. This problem appears to be electrical and has not been sorted yet.
At the old house when I built the shed I cut through the cord to my Skill saw. It really wasn’t the big deal I always thought cutting through a cord would be, just a ‘pop!’ and then no power to the saw. Easy fix though, I just soldered the ends together and using tape and shrink tubing, fixed it up. It’s still in use today…
On the other had, the poor tape above isn’t going to make it. From the same era as the saw, the green tape suffered a little bit of time under the blade of said saw while building the shed at the ‘new’ house. I was ripping a piece of siding lengthwise, using 2 x 4′s to keep from cutting my impromptu table and somehow it got under there. It wasn’t until I had finished the cut and looked under there did I realize what the green shavings were that had come up from under the siding.
Lucky for me a neighbor was selling a whole slew of tapes for super cheap at his garage sale a few weeks ago. I bought them all, just in case.
And on another topic;
How does this happen? The workbench was clean two days ago!
The weather is nice today. Heck, it’s been nice almost all winter but for some reason, after two days of rain it’s suddenly “nicer.” The next two days are supposed to be even warmer- like into the high 70′s warmer. Anticipating that I’m not going to be able to get out this weekend, I postponed the chores and quit working on the fire pit a little early so I could get a ride in. Just a quick afternoon jaunt up the valley and back down. Sometimes it’s easy being spoiled.
